Bio - Nicolas Kopot

I am the only child of two loving multilingual parents; they raised me speaking French, English, and Ukrainian. My grandmother (my Baba) lived with us and she taught me a great deal about culture and tradition.

I love to learn about, and speak new languages- Gwichya Gwich'in and Inuinnaqtun have been my latest personal challenges. I have always been drawn to, and adept with languages; I was taught that it is the best way to truly understand someone.

I was always encouraged to adventure, and to try new things. I have been to several countries in both hemispheres to do exactly that. My happy place is on the land in the Ulukhaktok region with my partner.

I am the father of an amazing 19 year old woman. I am a community member (an Ulumiut), a teacher, a coach, and a principal. I have spent many years teaching, and even more learning.

I love to listen, hear, and experience elders telling their stories- they are a window across time and place. My passion is in seeing children smile as they begin to understand something that once seemed overwhelming. I am an avid supporter, committed advocate, and leader of my students, staff, and community.
